Ian left his home town of Dallas, Texas six years ago to begin his college career at the University of Texas. He started as a business major, dabbled in neurobiology, flirted with the humanities, committed himself to history and now, six years later, wishes he was a business major again. Going back, though, would cost him even more time and as he puts it, there's an empty place on his wall that needs filling. Interestingly, he never considered filling it with a Computer Science degree. Everything he knows about computers he taught himself. The family computer broke when he was just a kid and he, taking the initiative, figured out how to fix it. One question led to another and before he knew it he'd acquired a wealth of knowledge that his family and friends took advantage of as often as possible.
After years of working for free he finally decided to accept a paid position here at Sumpter & González. Within the first month he replaced everyone's computer, built a secure server and made our day-to-day operations run smoother. While he worries that his efforts may eventually put him out of a job, he continues finding ways to improve the Firm's information system. More than just an information technology specialist, though, Ian has a background in all things computer related. He worked for his father's architectural firm gaining CAD experience and is developing his own web design company as he finds the time.
As one might imagine, though, his time is limited
as he balances a full schedule at UT with plenty of computer work
at Sumpter & González. And yet he still manages to satiate his appetite
for various hobbies and interests. He takes surfing trips to Mexico
several times a year and while there brushes up on his fluent Spanish.
He scuba dives, plays rugby and engages in a number of other refined
athletic activities. In describing himself, he often employs the
Computer Nerd archetype. Even at his nerdiest moments, however,
when building PC towers or troubleshooting the server, Ian displays
a coolness that comes only with broad and profound experience in
areas across the board, from the arts and sciences to sportsmanship.
